About Joseph Fung

Joseph Fung is the Managing Partner of Saltagen Ventures, a regional venture capital fund house specializing in life sciences, agricultural technology, clean technology, and artificial intelligence. Focusing on deep technologies and groundbreaking solutions to tackle the world's pressing challenges, Mr. Fung actively collaborates with public and private institutions in Canada and Asia to support technology startups in their global scaling.


In addition to his role at Saltagen Ventures, Mr. Fung is the founder and managing director of Fairchild Canadian Academy (FCA), a school chain dedicated to play-based and inquiry-based early childhood education. FCA is renowned for its research and development partnerships with distinguished institutions such as Simon Fraser University, the University of British Columbia, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the Education University of Hong Kong.


Mr. Fung has served as the Canada Member on the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) since 2021 and is currently in his fifth year of service. He has previously served as Vice Chair of the APEC Policy Partnership for Food Security (2023-2025) and is currently the Vice Chair of the ABAC Sustainability Working Group. Mr. Fung has acted as a conduit for the Canadian business community and the broader private sector in the APEC fora, particularly in food security, sustainability, and innovative technology.


Mr. Fung holds several prominent positions within the business community. He is currently one of the Governors of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, China. He has also served as the advisory board member of Creative Destruction Labs Global, the faculty board director of the University of British Columbia, the management board director of Versitech at the University of Hong Kong, the board director of the Hong Kong Medical and Health Devices Industry Association, and the board director of Saint George’s School in Canada.


Prior to his current ventures, Mr. Fung led research teams at Morgan Stanley and Citigroup Alternative Investments in their buy-side divisions. He also played a pivotal role in the global expansion of PCCW Media, Hong Kong’s leading quad-play media company, by spearheading its overseas business development and broadcasting departments.


About Emmanuel Hui

Mr. Emmanuel Andrew Hui is a biomedical entrepreneur and investor with a track record spanning clinical care, scientific innovation, and venture capital. Starting as an EMT while completing his Senior Fellowship in Chemistry at Dartmouth College, he went on to co-found Moogene Medi, a gene therapy company now listed on the Korean stock exchange (322970.KS). After listing, he returned to Hong Kong to join Sagamore Investments, managing a portfolio of over 2,000 companies in China private equity. In 2021, he founded the Tiger Jade Pebble Accelerator “Pebble”, a company dedicated to


  1. incubating and investing in Hong Kong biotech startups,

  2. bringing global innovations into China, and

  3. bringing Chinese innovations to the world through Hong Kong.


“Pebble” is backed by Tiger Jade and Tigermed, China’s largest clinical CRO and other major institutions such as Morningside and Nan Fung. Mr. Hui has strong ties to academia in Hong Kong, sitting on the investment committee of the Chinese University's (CU) innovation fund and lecturing at CU’s business school. Mr. Hui additionally serves on several governance boards including the Hong Kong Hospital Authority’s Ethics Board and the Hong Kong Life Sciences Society. Mr. Hui works closely with Saltagen Ventures as a Domain Partner given his deep expertise in science, academia, and both private and public sectors in Hong Kong.
